Songs to Cry To, Songs to Scream To
January 28, 2021
We all have the occasional ~moment~, so why not embrace it and listen to absolute bangers that happen to be just a ‘little’ sad.
You could easily just search up a generic Spotify playlist to fulfil your needs, but will you really get the most out of it? No, probably not. You need to make your own, artisanally crafted sad or mad playlist to fit your sad mood. This may be a large task to take on, but thankfully, I’m here to help. And don’t even mention Apple Music to me… heathens.
Songs to Cry to
Alright, so there are a few different directions that you could take your crying playlist. You could go the route of sad rap, or you could go sad indie music, both of which are viable options. But my personal favorite is sad Taylor Swift deep cuts, so that is absolutely what I’ll be recommending today. To celebrate the absolute art produced by that woman this past year, these songs will be from folklore and evermore.
This song is an absolute gut punch. If you weren’t already bawling, you will be after this one. 10/10 you must hydrate post listen.
tolerate it- evermore
Could I make a Taylor Swift crying playlist without including this one? No… the answer is one. It would be an injustice to the song.
In my opinion, this song doesn’t get the attention it deserves in the least. It’s definitely in my top 5 if not top 3 of folklore. Oh, it’s just beautiful. Art, absolute art.
this is me trying- folklore
Another slapper that I don’t think gets enough credit. This is more of a song about being frustrated, in my opinion. Since I’m the type who cries when I’m frustrated, this fits the bill.
Songs to Scream to-
This is a subgenre that I find myself in often. Junior year is doin’ me real dirty. So if you take anything from this list, please take this. I have a LOT of experience with this sentiment. Like the former, this genre could be taken in several different directions, however, I’m taking it in the direction of Ms Taylor Alison Swift. This will include more than exclusively folklore and evermore songs, we’re going to Is this TSwift praising article really what you signed up for? Doubt it. But I don’t care, it’s my article. Write your own.
mad women- folklore
AN ABSOLUTE FEMINIST ANTHEM. I hate men. Let’s take down the patriarchy together, Ms Swift.
nobody, no crime- evermore
If you tell me you haven’t screamed this in your car while going to get Dunkin for the 3rd time that day, you’re lying, don’t even try to pull this on me. This is the ultimate car singing song. It makes you feel like you’re on your way to perform a vengeful murder. Figuratively, not literally. Seriously, I feel like I should get a lawyer.
All Too Well- Red
Do I need to explain?
Cruel Summer- Lover
The bridge of this song is immaculate. It makes me want to run a red light.
In conclusion, if you make yourself a little playlist and you don’t use any of these Taylor songs, I won’t think badly of you. I’ll just think of you… differently.
