Today, Wapiti Weekly sits down with Student Body Co-President, Lauren Donovan ‘21 to discuss everything from Student Government to hobbies to tea.

Anthony: What are some of your hobbies?

Lauren: Some of my hobbies outside of school are gardening, singing, and cooking/baking! I’ve always loved gardening during the summer and cooking veggies on the grill, both skills of which I learned from my mom since she’s a pro. And singing, not surprising, but I just enjoy singing my favorite songs and going crazy without anyone to judge my voice cracks!

AA: What is your favorite part about being a student body co-president?

LD: My favorite part of being co-student body president is the fact that I can do awesome work to bring up the atmosphere on campus for everyone and make this year much more enjoyable. Even working with such an incredible team constantly makes me feel just really happy and more ambitious to work harder towards making this year the best it can be.

AA: You’ve been involved with theater here at the Winchendon School since you first arrived. What has been your favorite show that you have done here?

LD: My favorite show I’ve done at Winch is by far is Little Shop of Horrors! It was a crazy breaking point for me because the role of Audrey II just forced me to act more confident, audacious, and wild like I usually am with my closest friends, but also it was a challenge for me to break out of my shell for this role. The soundtrack was so catchy and fun to sing 24/7, the overall story was really entertaining and silly. I was always smiling backstage, and most of all the production in its entirety was just a time that I will always look back on that I loved every moment of.

AA: What has been your favorite class you have ever taken at The Winchendon School?

LD: My favorite class I’ve taken at Winch has definitely been vocal ensemble 100%. It was truly a place I could grow vocally but mainly I had some absolutely incredible memories with my classmates and friends working on pieces together and just taking the time to chit chat about our day to day lives. I quite honestly spent more time in this class laughing and having fun being with my peers more than actual work.

AA: What is one of your favorite memories from Student Government?

LD: I honestly don’t have a favorite memory from student government, but if I had to say one, it would definitely be just the overall first month of meetings. Although this year wasn’t exactly what I imagined it would be like, I was still really eager to get to know my team and try and learn as we started to work together. We’ve shared plenty of laughs and good times during meetings, and I’m always excited even now for each meeting, even if it is boring work, I just love the people I work with.

AA: What would be your dream career?

LD: My dream career would definitely be an actress. I’ve always loved theatre and performing, as cheesy as it sounds, but as a kid, I’ve always become a completely different person; a person who’s confident, vibrant, bold, just someone who I aspire to be. Just spending each day on a set or on a stage being the best version of myself would be the to die for career for me.

AA: If you had to choose one food to eat for the rest of your life, what would it be?

LD; If I had to choose one food to eat for the rest of my life it would probably be a tie between sushi and ice cream. Sushi would be much more realistic because of the nutritional value and how super delicious it is, but then again, I would probably die happy eating ice cream for the rest of my life.

AA: I hear that you are quite the tea fanatic, so we have to know: what is your favorite kind of tea?

LD: My favorite type of tea is Earl Grey, and it was honestly a funny discovery to how I found this to be my favorite type of tea. As a kid, my mother would watch hours upon hours of soap operas, and one of her favorite characters would always drink Earl Grey tea, and eventually, I just started drinking it every time I watched the show with her and it eventually stuck with me naturally!

AA: What is your favorite TV show?

LD: My favorite show would have to be Young and the Restless. Sure, it’s an old soap opera, but I just love the show for its great cast of different characters, constant intriguing drama, and plot twists around every corner.

AA: Now, for the last question, what is something that Student Government is working on that everyone should get excited about?

LD: Something that student government is working on that the student body should totally be excited about is definitely overall the end of the next week going into Monday! There are just so many fun events and activities to plan that I hope everyone has a great time and has fun! More details to come for sure, but honestly, I’m most excited for Valentine’s Day! Sorry, not too many spoilers!
